The SOM-BSB-EXT version must match the version of the SmartFusion2 SOM; otherwise, a malfunction may result. Specifically, a SOM Rev 2A module should be used only with a SOM-BSB-EXT that has the "Rev 2A compatible" sticker on it; a SOM Rev 1A module should be used only with a SOM-BSB-EXT that does not have the Rev2A compatible sticker. Kits, as shipped from the factory, ensure such compatibility, however customers should be careful when unplugging the SOM and using it with baseboards other than the one provided in the kit.
